Week 5 pix by JR -- the Real Expert rebounds

When I pick a game that is so off, it makes me realize that I'm no expert. I picked Tulane +10 at Duke. The Green Wave were never in it, losing 48-27. Please keep this in mind, if you're playing my suggestions.

Please, don't bet the house and don't try to get it all back in one swoop. That's the biggest mistake by any gambler and why the house easily makes money.

I did go 2-1 in my top plays, however, nailing the over in Florida-Kentucky and winning on K-State, which beat Miami as a 12-point underdog. That makes me 7-5 on the season.

Against the experts, I was 11-6. Jerry Hinnen leads the group with an astounding 50-27 mark. I'm second among the experts at 46-31.

I need to admit I didn't study as much this week with the Jewish holiday starting Wednesday night.

On to Week 5

Week 13 pix by JR -- the Real Expert

I went 17-3 in Week 12. My losses were Iowa (over Ohio State), Miami (over Va. Tech) and San Diego State (over Utah).

The Hawkeyes should have stuck to the power run game, but I'll take a Buckeyes victory any day … even if I picked against them.

My overall record is now 206-64, but with Chip Patterson going 18-2, I lost another game in the standings to him and trail the leader by five games.

Overall standings for the Experts: Chip 211-59, Darst 207-63, me 206-64, Jacobi 201-69, Dodd 200-70 & Horowitz 195-75. I don't know if I can catch Chip to successfully defend my title, but getting past Darst shouldn’t be a problem.

Note: My original Week 12 post had me picking Northwestern (over Illinois) and Utah (over SDSU), but I audibled and posted my changes before those games started.

Penn State 30, No. 11 Michigan State 20 (Take the 1½)
No. 13 Virginia Tech over Virginia
No. 15 Missouri over Kansas

Additional handicapping suggestion
Play over of 53½ in Indiana at Purdue

WEEK 12 HANDICAPPING (2-1-1)

Wins: Over of 48 (closed at 51) in Michigan State 35, Purdue 31; Taking Mississippi +15 (close at 14½) in LSU 43, Ole Miss 36
Loss: Over of 60½ in Nevada 52, New Mexico State 6
Push: Taking Iowa +3 in OSU 20, Iowa 17

Unfortunately, I called off playing Utah -2½, so the 2-1-1 showing makes me 16-19-1 on the year.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.

Week 10 pix by JR -- the Real Expert

I went 16-5 in Week 9, but it will go down as 15-5 since the experts didn't pick last Tuesday's obvious Boise State win over La. Tech.

That makes me 160-44 on the season. I'm now three games back of Chip Patterson, who went 17-3.

Overall standings:  Chip 163-41, me 160-44, Darst 158-46, Jacobi 157-47, Dodd 153-51 & Horowitz 147-57.

I lost on USC (to Oregon), FSU (to N.C. State), Miami (to Virginia), Texas (to Baylor) and Georgia (to Florida).

Now to Week 10's picks

Week 7 pix by JR -- the Real Expert

Yep, I picked South Carolina last week. I was off on the score – I said 20-17 – but I still nailed it when calling for the No. 1 team in the country to go down.

None of the so-called experts had South Carolina winning. This must be why they kicked me, the defending champion, out of their club. They were sick and tired of me embarrassing them every week. Did Dennis Dodd really pick Kansas State last week? KSU lost to Nebraska 48-13. Ouch!

Stick to reporting Dennis. Avoid the predictions, will ya?

However, I did drop the ball on Arizona (to Oregon State), Florida (to LSU), Miami (to FSU), Michigan (to MSU) and my upset call of Texas A&M (to Arkansas).

So I went 17-5 in Week 6, making me 114-24 on the year. That leave me in second all alone, one game back of Facts & Rumors blogger Chip Patterson, who had an impressive 18-4 showing, beating me on my A&M pick with Arkansas and my Michigan pick with MSU.

Now to Week 7

THURSDAY
No. 25 West Virginia over South Florida

SATURDAY
No. 1 Ohio State 33, No. 18 Wisconsin 16
No. 3 Boise State over San Jose State
No. 4 TCU over BYU (play the over of 48.5)
No. 5 Nebraska 31, Texas 17
No. 6 Oklahoma over Iowa State

No. 7 Auburn 28, No. 12 Arkansas 27
No. 8 Alabama over Mississippi
No. 9 LSU over McNeese State (this is just wrong, playing a team like this in October)
No. 10 South Carolina over Kentucky
No. 11 Utah over Wyoming

No. 13 Michigan State over Illinois
No. 15 Iowa over Michigan (I like the over of 53.5)
No. 15 Florida State over Boston College
No. 17 Arizona over Washington State
No. 19 Nevada over Hawaii (a small play on the under of 74)

Texas Tech over No. 20 Oklahoma State
Texas A&M over No. 21 Missouri
No. 22  Florida over Mississippi State (lay the 7.5)
No. 23 Air Force over San Diego State
Washington over No. 24 Oregon State

N.C. State over East Carolina
Syracuse over Pittsburgh
USC over Cal

MORE HANDICAPPING
I like (just a little) Minnesota-Purdue over of 51

WEEK 6 RECAP (17-5)
Losses mentioned in lead-in graphs, but for handicapping purposes, I went 1-0, suggesting to take the 22 points in Minnesota-Wisconsin. That puts me on a six-game win streak!!!!

Week 5 pix by JR -- the Real Expert

Went 21-3 last week, bringing me to 82-16 overall.
That ties me with J. Darin Darst and leaves me three back of the so-called Expert Picks leader Dennis Dodd (85-13).

On to Week 5

THURSDAY
Oklahoma State over Texas A&M

SATURDAY
No. 1 Alabama 28, No. 7 Florida 20
No. 2 Ohio State over Illinois
No. 3 Boise State over – more like quadruple over – New Mexico State
No. 4 Oregon 33, No. 9 Stanford 30 (Possible Game of the Year)
No. 5 TCU over Colorado State

No. 8 Oklahoma 38, No. 21 Texas 28 (Over of 45 looks nice)
No. 10 Auburn over La.-Monroe
No. 24 Michigan State 31, over No. 11 Wisconsin 30 (Like the over of 52)
No. 12 LSU over Tennessee
No. 16 Miami over Clemson (Will ‘Canes burn me again?)

No. 17 Iowa 29, No. 22 Penn State 18
No. 18 USC over Washington
No. 19 Michigan over Indiana (Expect a lot of points. I love the over of 65.5)
No. 23 N.C. State over Virginia Tech (Take the 4 points)
No. 25 Nevada over UNLV

Boston College over Notre Dame (Take the 3 points)
Air Force over Navy

WEEK 4 RECAP (21-3)
Lost on Pitt (boy, do they stink), Texas (I just can’t read UCLA) & Ga. Tech (N.C. State looked pretty good).

Week 4 pix by JR -- the Real Expert

I'm sorry, but I feel like I let you all down last week, going 21-5. Five? That's just terrible, especially when picking just winners & losers and not bothering with the spread.

That leaves me 61-13, three behind leader Dennis Dodd (64-10) and one behind J. Darin Darst (62-12). You can check the picks of the so-called experts here.

WEEK 3 RECAP (21-5)
I lost on Iowa (to Arizona), Georgia (to Arkansas), Houston (to UCLA?), Nevada (to Cal) & UNC (to Ga. Tech).

And I was wrong by a hook on the over in USC-Minnesota and completely wrong on the over in Houston-UCLA. Again, my apologies.
